Adoptable Dogs

You must be an ISR approved adopter to request and receive further information on our GSPs. The process includes an application review, Veterinarian check, and home visit. Please understand there may be approved adopters already going through various stages of our adoption process; candidates who submitted their applications before those still in the review process, or those who are in the home visit stages.

Expressing an interest for a particular dog already in our rescue does not guarantee that specific dog will be available when you’ve completed the approval process. Also, we must ensure the needs of the dog of interest is a good match to an applicant’s specific circumstances. Completing an application and going through the approval process will add your information to our network. A current approval with your information in our database offers you the greatest opportunity to be matched up with the perfect GSP; a great match for your entire family. To start the application process, please follow the instructions found on this page.

Cole
Age: ~2 years old – Size: ~40 lbs
Personality: Sweet, goofy, smart, eager to please
Energy Level: Medium–High (young GSP)

Cole — lovingly nicknamed Squirrel (a name passed down from a volunteer’s previous GSP) — is a bright, affectionate young dog who’s ready to find his person. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be part of whatever you’re doing, whether that’s going for a walk, exploring the yard, or curling up after a good play session.

What Cole Loves

  • Playing and wrestling with dog friends
  • Sniffing, exploring, and using his brain
  • Training games (he’s very food‑motivated!)
  • Being goofy and affectionate once he trusts you

Training & Home Skills

Cole is crate‑trained, potty‑trained, and knows his basic cues. He settles nicely once he understands what’s expected and he learns quickly. He genuinely wants to get things right and responds beautifully to positive guidance.

Dog Interactions

  • Loves to wrestle and play with other dogs, especially those with a similar energy level
  • Enjoys fetch, running, and playing in a fenced yard
  • Social, friendly, and appropriate with dogs who like to engage

Ideal Home

Cole will shine in a home that:

  • Enjoys training and enrichment
  • Appreciates a sensitive, smart dog
  • Has a playful resident dog (ideal but not required)
  • Wants a dog who’s ready to blossom in a new environment

Cole is truly ready to try a new environment where he can grow, gain confidence, and show just how wonderful he is. Once he bonds with you, he’s all heart.

If you’re looking for a sweet, silly, eager‑to‑please young boy, Cole may be your perfect match.

Status: Recently rescued from the shelter and settling into his foster home

What We Know So Far

  • Chef spent too long in the shelter and was finally sprung with the help of many wonderful volunteers
  • He had a long transport ride to his foster home
  • Got a much‑needed bath to wash off the shelter smell
  • Picked out some new toys — immediately chose a ball
  • Seems like he may be a bit ball‑obsessed
  • Played ball happily for a while
  • Still a little anxious after his shelter stay
  • Fell asleep once the lights went out
  • Very sweet, gentle boy

More to come…

As Chef settles into his foster home, we’ll share updates about his routine, personality, and what kind of home will be the best match.

Maeve— ADOPTABLE

Age: ~2 years Weight: ~38 lbs Sex: Female, spayed Personality: Energetic • Super Sweet • Fast Learner Energy Level: High (classic young GSP)

About Maeve

Maeve is a young, petite 2‑year‑old female who came to the shelter with her sister, Ginny, after their owner surrendered them because the landlord wouldn’t allow dogs in the apartment. She arrived scared, overwhelmed, and with very little training — but she has been blossoming quickly in her foster home.

She’s truly a diamond in the rough whose personality is still emerging. Maeve is bright, athletic, super sweet, affectionate, and eager to learn. With patience and structure, she’s showing us just how much potential she has.

Training & Routine

Maeve had almost no training when she arrived, but she’s learning fast. She currently:

  • Is crate trained (with a treat)
  • Knows sit, stay, paw, off
  • Is very food‑motivated
  • Is mostly housebroken (watch for her cues)
  • Loves to cuddle once her energy is out

She still needs leash training — she pulls with excitement — but she responds well to guidance and consistency.

Maeve has been introduced slowly and carefully to her foster family’s senior dogs. She has done well with supervised interactions and is learning to understand other dogs’ cues.

  • No food resource guarding
  • Foster is watchful with toys, antlers, and stuffed Kongs
  • Normal GSP prey drive (chases squirrels, butterflies, lightning bugs)
  • No exposure to cats

She’s playful, social, and enthusiastic — just still learning boundaries.

Children

Maeve does not live with children but has met some. She was shy at first and warmed up slowly. Because she gets zoomies and has a long, happy tail, she could accidentally knock down a small child. A home with older kids or dog‑savvy children (around 6+ years old) would be ideal.

Activities & Ideal Lifestyle

Maeve is fast, athletic, and smart — she would shine in dog sports or any active home. She loves:

  • Fetch
  • Walks and runs
  • Dog puzzles
  • Learning new skills
  • Playtime with other dogs

She’s a great fit for adopters who enjoy training, exercise, and helping a young GSP grow into her best self.

Ideal Home

Maeve will thrive in an active household that enjoys exercise, structure, and continued training. She would do well with dog‑savvy kids, ideally 6 years and older. If there are other dogs in the home, they should match her energy level and enjoy playful, enthusiastic interactions.

large fenced yard would be ideal so she has space to run, explore, and burn off her energy safely.

If you’re looking for a dog who can keep up with an active day and then cuddle hard once she’s tired, Maeve may be your new BFF.

Fun Fact

Maeve loves looking at her reflection — her foster family calls her Queen Maeve.

If you’re a family who wants to adopt an active, affectionate Shorthair, then Maeve may be just the match for you! Please complete our Online Adoption Application. It’s the quickest and best way for us to learn of your interest.

Maverick – Fostered in IL

Age: ~2 years Size: ~45 lbs Personality: Energetic, affectionate, playful Energy Level: Medium–High (young GSP)

Maverick is a bright, athletic young GSP who loves being part of the action. He’s happiest when he has a good mix of physical exercise, mental enrichment, and time with his people. Once he’s had his walks and finished checking in on the squirrels and bunnies, he’s a total cuddlebug who loves to relax and watch TV at night.

What Maverick Loves

  • Playing ball and carrying around his favorite stuffed animal
  • Exploring the yard and watching wildlife
  • Playtime with his foster brother
  • Training games — he loves to learn and picks things up quickly
  • Evening snuggles with his family

Training & Home Skills

Maverick is housebroken and sleeps quietly in his crate at night. He walks well on a leash and enjoys getting out to burn off energy. He has a medium‑high prey drive, so he’ll thrive with an adopter who understands young sporting breeds and can give him both physical and mental outlets.

He knows sit, wait, drop, come, and “do your business.” He’s smart, eager to learn, and loves being around people.

Dog & Kid Interactions

Maverick gets along well with his foster brother and enjoys having a playmate to help channel his energy. He’s also good with kids and fits in easily with family routines.

Ideal Home

Maverick will shine in a home that:

  • Enjoys daily exercise and enrichment
  • Understands prey‑driven sporting breeds
  • Wants a fun, affectionate companion who loves to be active and then cuddle

If you’re looking for a sweet, energetic young GSP who’s as ready for adventure as he is for movie‑night snuggles, Maverick may be your perfect match.
